So… dear reader… you still don’t think the Beastie Boys deserve God like status because of their awesomeness? Read the following:- ihaveamessydesk: So here’s the basis of the argument, from James Furbush at the Sly Oyster: At the beginnng of Star Trek, a young James Kirk has stolen his stepdad’s antique Corvette, in which he listens to the song “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys. Most people have taken this as a reference to the fact that William Shatner as Kirk notoriously had problems pronouncing the word “sabotage”. But, what JJ Abrams didn’t think all the way through was that by adding this song, he introduces the Beastie Boys as a reality into the Star Trek canon. Which wouldn’t be a problem except… This incident with the young Kirk occurs in Stardate 2248, which corresponds to the Gregorian calendar. If he’s listening to the Beastie Boys, a group from the 1990s in 2248, others are as well. And if they’re listening to “Sabatoge”, they are probably listening to “Intergalactic”, which makes a reference to the Vulcan neck pinch, which would not have been invented, or at least introduced to Earth for hundreds of years. It’s theoretically possible that Spock (who has never been shown learning the Vulcan neck pinch from anywhere else) heard it from the Beastie Boys and it aroused his curiosity and he then invented it. - iheartchaos I rest my case….. |
