Yesterday I was e-mailed the draft job spec for the new post that’s being created after my boss quit. Whilst having no qualms about the majority of it there are a few bits that make me say “Huh… wtf are they talking about?” or the more succinct “Oh crap”. I don’t quite understand why they think I can do it… but they do… they’ve told me as much. I’ll be travelling between offices… reporting to the Management Board… working the inevitable longer hours. I’ll be responsible for co-ordinating secretarial support for other offices. I’ll delegate and have people reporting to me… rather than doing everything myself. I’ve never been some-one’s boss… I have no frigging clue where to start or how to handle it. I have no idea how large a salary I should ask for…. knowing full well that my boss was paid DOUBLE what I’m paid but that a supervisor in a department that works very closely with mine is only on £2,000 more than me. Do I accept whatever they offer me in case they go elsewhere or do I hold out for the salary that I want? I’ve already got the pension… there isn’t health care… so salary is all I can go for isn’t it? My interview is at 11.30am tomorrow… Oh crap…. |
