So I’m a bit sick. I started feeling lousy on Sunday… worse on Monday… rapidly downhill on Tuesday and by Wednesday couldn’t get to the top of the stairs without having to stop to catch my breath. I had an app’t to see a Doctor at my surgery this morning and this nice Dr Locum decided to read my notes. I guess I should be thankful for the added interest as it shows he cares right? Anyway… after taking a more detailed history and giving me a good going over nice Dr Locum decides that rather than treat my “mild” chest infection with antibiotics (as is always the case) we (he used the “we” rather a lot even though I’ll probably never see him again) will start being much more proactive and will embark on a course of preventative action. And so I sit here… with my weezing chest… and NO antibiotics… researching the asthma medication I am under instrutions to use daily for the next twelve months. I now have two inhalers… one of which is to be used EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. for the next twelve months… and the other which is to be used in “weezing and tightness of chest” emergencies. When I pointed out that, if I wasn’t given antibiotics today, I would be back in a couple of days in an even worse state, I was categorically shot down and told that would only happen if I didn’t use my inhalers properly. Apparently this is all my Mother’s fault… because Dr Locum believes that I am paying the price of passively smoking the pack and a half a day she used to enjoy. |
